Have you ever wondered what happiness looks like? Meet Brazilian artist and founder of the Happy Art Movement, Romero Britto, the man painting happiness into physical form! Just like happiness, his work can’t help but make you smile. His colourful and bold art is highly revered, being exhibited in some of the most prestigious museums around the world. As the mastermind behind our fabulous Jubilee Gift Boxes, we got the chance to ask him some quick-fire questions about his artistic process and the inspiration behind his designs.
You have a worldwide following of people who love your work. Who inspires you?
I am inspired by everything I experience, from a sunrise on the beach, nature, love, food, news, history, to outer space! Masters like Davinci, Raphael – everything really inspires me to create!
When did you first pick up a paintbrush? How did you get into painting?
I first started creating artwork when I was 8 years old in Brazil. I couldn't afford to use paintbrushes so I would use what I could find.
Your Brazilian heritage is a theme of your work, what do you love about Brazil?
The culture, nature, and the Brazilian spirit of the people.
You did a series of the Royal family, what inspired you to use the Royals as a subject?
I have always been inspired by the Royal family. The concept of having traditions passed down generation to generation, history continuously building the legacy, and the sense of identity the Royal family brings to the world.
